Chester Sands is the local branch of the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity, set up by local bereaved parents in January 2013. We’re here to support anyone affected by the death of a baby in Cheshire West and Chester, including Ellesmere Port and Neston, Frodsham and Helsby, Northwich, Winsford and Malpas, and we also have many families who attend the group from North Wales. Sands volunteers aim to support you by
– Running a monthly support group, giving the opportunity to meet other bereaved parents and talk to others who are on a similar journey. We also organise regular social and fundraising events (see Diary for more details)
– Providing practical help and advice when a baby dies, including a variety of different booklets and other publications. Booklets can also be downloaded from the Sands website at http://www.uk-sands.org/resources/parents-family-friends/booklets-leaflets-certificates
We provide information and support leaflets to all bereaved parents on Labour Ward and the Neonatal Unity at the Countess of Chester Hospital. We have supported the Countess by providing a number of items for the Lavender Suite (the bereavement room on Labour Ward) and continue to support the Countess as needed. In November 2014 we funded a Sands Bereavement Training for Professionals full day training course which was attended by 20 midwives from the Countess and was very well received. We have arranged a training day for staff from the Neonatal Unit in June 2016.
